SCE COURSE SUMMARY

The Strength and Conditioning Expert (SCE) certification is the most comprehensive and practical program in the area of strength training for sports. Whether you are a personal trainer desiring involvement in the strength and conditioning field, or a coach involved in a specific sport or variety of sports, this course will diversify and improve your training and conditioning skills. Memorization takes a step back to integration as you are challenged to apply scientific principles in a practical and methodological manner. The knowledge you attain is sure to change your perspective of strength, power, and speed and endurance program design.

As a Strength and Conditioning Expert (SCE) you will learn:How to formulate and plan each phase of training to meet the natural adaptation continuum of the human neuromuscular system. How to effectively plan each phase in accordance with the competition schedule. How to train the dominant abilities (i.e. maximum speed, power or muscular endurance) required to achieve peak performance for each sport. How to manipulate the training variables to create the specific physiological adaptation needed for athletes to reach peak performance. How to plan a specific plyometric training program with varied exercises and intensity levels.

Prerequisites: Provide documented proof of:

Personal trainer certification (i.e. NSCA / A.C.E. / C.P.T.N. / Can Fit Pro etc.)
Professional liability

Testing Information:

To successfully obtain the SCE certification, you must achieve 70% or more on all testing components.

1. Take-Home Exam:

The multiple-choice, true/false and short answer exam consists of 40 questions on the following topics: Applied muscle physiology, Variables of training, Exercise selection, Program design and Planning. Once you have signed up for the course, an exam will be mailed to you. 

2. Practical Application Scenarios:

In this section, we will provide a list of practical application scenarios testing your planning and program design knowledge for numerous sports. Questions will generally cover the methods inherent in the Periodization of Strength and Power development. You will be graded on your ability to create realistic strategies that will enhance performance and create peak anatomical and physiological adaptation.

3. Periodization of Strength model for your selected Sport:

In this section, you will be asked to construct a Periodization of Strength model for a chosen sport. A skeletal design of your model will represent the basis for your program. Subsequently you will be asked to extract two phases of training from your model and specifically outline the objectives of the phases, the athlete (s) maximum values, the exercises, load (s), volume and intensity that will be used in training. A week-by-week analysis will come together to form an 8 to 10 week strength program. The maximum time allowed to complete this exam is 6 months.
