P-PS COURSE SUMMARY

The Periodization-Planning Specialist (P-PS) education program is intended to enhance the knowledge of coaches, trainers and athletes who are actively involved in the world of fitness and sport. Great emphasis will be placed on how to apply scientific principles to meet your client’s needs.

It’s simple, "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

As a P-PS, you will become an expert in the following: Short-term and long-term planning, peaking and regeneration. The design of microcycles, macrocycles and annual plans. Altering energy systems to meet your client’s needs. Designing programs for the preparatory, competitive and transition phases. Quantifying training for optimal physiological response. Interrelating physical, technical and tactical training Breaking down the physiological requirements of a sport or movement and creating the appropriate training methods to maximize adaptation.

Prerequisites:

Provide documented proof of: Personal trainer certification (ie.A.C.E. / C.P.T.N./Can Fit Pro etc.) Professional liability. Note: Professional experience may be sufficient. Provide a detailed summary of your experiences.

Testing Information:

To successfully obtain the PPS certification, you must achieve 70% or more on all testing components.

1. Multiple-Choice, True/False and Short Answer Exam

The exam consists of 40 questions on the following topics: Applied muscle physiology, Variables of training Exercise selection,  Program design, Planning and Periodization. Once you have signed up for the course, an exam will be sent to you. The questions will be derived from the course textbook (Periodization: Theory & Methodology of Training).

2. Practical Knowledge Assignments 

The first part challenges your knowledge on planning for the preparatory, competitive and transition phases for individual and team sports. The second part requires you to design microcycles for a sport or client situation of your choice. Use this practical section to design a program for a real-life situation. Whether it’s an individual client you currently train or a sport in which you wish to be a strength coach, use your intelligence and creativity to create a personal tool to enhance your career.

3. Annual Plan

This section puts a final stamp on your planning knowledge. You must successfully create an annual plan for a given sport. You will be graded on your accuracy, creativity and ingenuity as a "Planning Specialist." You will be expected to quantify and qualify the ergogenesis of the sport along with parameters such as volume, intensity, regeneration and physical/technical/tactical/psychological preparation. This portion of the testing procedure is for quality assurance. It allows our experts to evaluate how you put all the pieces together. The maximum time allowed to complete this exam is 6 months.
